A family for all.
Building community within the parish, is one of the aims of the Passionist Family Groups Movement. The Passionist Family Group includes adults and children of all ages who gather to get to know one another and enjoy time together. Whether you are married, single, with or without children, a Passionist Family Group is a place for you to share experiences and build community in the Parish.
What’s it all about?
Have you ever heard this before? “We don’t know many people in this parish” ” I wish we could get to know more people” “We go to Mass but don’t feel connected to the entire community” “How can we show our children what it means to be a Christian?”
Well, now there’s a way to explore this and so much more…
Joining a Family Group, you’ll get to know people just like yourself. You will find a sense of belonging and in turn you will support others. Through this interaction, you will find you are bringing a happy, loving spirit to the parish community as a whole. Children will discover that they belong to a large extended family and will learn from the example of others in the Family Group too. This is exactly how the Church first began. Our faith is social, an interactive family in Christ. People said of the early Christians “See how they love one another!”
What happens when you join?
You will be introduced to a Family Group with some members of similar ages to yourself. Each group is encouraged to meet monthly to share each others company and have fun and in so doing, gradually develop supportive relationships. Some activities are more suitable for adults, eg. a shared meal in someone’s home, while others will be based around outdoor activities and will appeal to those families with younger children. Every effort is made to keep costs to a minimum for all activities. Sharing experiences, working together to support one another where there is a need, celebrating baptisms and anniversaries, are all some of the ways a Family Group grows together.
The groups also work together to strengthen the parish community and assist the parish team in meeting the pastoral needs of the parish. It is in this community oriented caring and sharing environment that the Family Groups live out their Christian faith in their everyday lives.
Long term friendships and bonds between families have been one of the noted outcomes of the Family Groups, especially when they have been able to support one another through the many challenges of life we each face.
